Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have an exceptionally beautiful woven basket. Dating to the mid-1800s, the basket is extremely rare, this is finely molded, thin walled and resembles similar handmade woven baskets in use during this period. The basket was molded in four pieces, two halves for the sides, the base and the applied handle. The pieces were pressed together while the clay was still wet and pliable. The potter did an extraordinary job of joining the pieces with no seams visible. Measuring 7 ½” in length across the handles and 5 ¾” in height to the top of the handle, the basket is in near mint condition with 2 fine lines in the glaze that don't go through and no other damage or repairs. It is a testament to the beauty of this basket that it has been cherished and survives in this pristine condition. A similar basket is shown in Lisa McAllister’s Collector’s Guide to Yellow Ware Book I on page 119. There were two versions of this basket produced, this one with a single handle in the center and one with the handles on the ends. This is a wonderful piece of extremely rare American high quality pottery. Any advanced collector would be pleased to add this basket to their yellow ware collection.
