Very Nice WW1 British M1907 SMLE Bayonet w/Scabbard

Description: The Pattern 1907 bayonet, officially called the sword bayonet was a British bayonet designed to be used with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. The Pattern 1907 bayonet was used by both British and Australian forces throughout both WW1 and WW2. It consists of a 17 inch one piece still blade and tang, with a cross guard and pommel made from wrought iron or mild steel, and a wooden grip usually made of walnut secured to the tang by two screws. The entire bayonet was 21.75 inches long. The pattern 1907 bayonet was supplied with a leather scabbard fitted with a steel top-mount and chape. The hilt is in very good condition. The wooden handles are nice with a pleasing medium brown color. There are a few small nicks, scratches and dents on the wooden grips. The pommel and cross guard retain nearly all of their original blue. There are a few tiny nicks and scratches on the pommel. I only see one small spot of oxidation on the pommel and cross guard. The release button works. The blade is in good condition. It is mostly bright silver not retaining much original blue. It has some very tiny freckling of cleaned oxidation the entire length of the blade. It has one small area of tiny pitting. The edge and tip are nice. On the ricasso is 1907 (pattern), 9, 18 and Sanderson (which is the maker). This bayonet was issued in September of 1918 (9 18). On the obverse are 3 British inspection marks, the government up arrow inspection mark, and a X (bend test mark). The scabbard is in good condition. The metal throat piece retains about 50% of its original blue. It has some light areas due to rubbing on a canvas frog. The throat piece has a British inspection mark on it. It is loose which is pretty typical for these scabbards. It has just a couple of tiny spots of corrosion. It has the tear drop frog stud rather the the round one. The metal end piece retains nearly all of its original blue which has turned to a plumb patina. The end piece is missing the staple on the back but is still very snug. It has just a couple tiny spots of corrosion. It carries the Orange Arsenal "OA" maker mark (Australian). Overall, this is a nice example of a British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet!!
