Description: This is a very rare 1961 Hi Fi version of Verdi's Requiem recorded in Moscow with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and the State Academic Chorus. It was recorded in the USSR by Parliament Records. Album notes include a fascinating story of how this was recorded with a Western Conductor during the cold war. The Russians had 120 singers and the Moscow Philharmonic in the concert hall for the recording.Other liner notes tell the interesting story of Verdi's reason for composing the music.
