Several years ago before the pandemic, I helped out a friend that owned a little comic shop in Archdale NC. We loaded up a van full of funny books and drove them up to the Baltimore Comic-Con. Mostly marked down bronze and copper aged books, with a decent selection of modern stuff to boot. This book was raw, and caught my eye out of a newly acquired collection that had come in a few weeks prior to the show. I worked it off in trade for my help, instead of buying it outright from my friend, because he was cool like that. I ended up getting it graded at the CGC booth across from our table. It came to no surprise of the return high grade of 9.6. The book was in fantastic condition, and someone had taken good care of it. Just a few years later, my friend passed away, and the little comic shop in Archdale NC is now a nail salon or something. This book serves as a solid memento to me for the many laughs, pains, deals, and steals I shared with my friend over the years. He knew that people didn't need comic books, but instead that what they truly needed was something simple to connect with; be it a little conversation or some colored paper stapled together. He knew times got tough. He wasn't afraid of cutting a deal, but he wouldn't bend over backwards for people he didn't trust as being of true value to him. He knew when someone was trying to rip him off.
