Description: 7-page inked and lettered preview of Vamps: Hollywood & Vein #1 from DC's late Vertigo line, by Elaine Lee and William Simpson, sequel to the original Vamps mini-series from 1994. The issue released December 12, 1995. So it looks like I originally posted this with the wrong images - sorry for the confusion! This preview was distributed by DC to retailers at the San Diego Retailer Expo, which leads off the San Diego Comicon. It may also have been distributed at Comic Con, but I don't believe so. For items $20 or more, or when I have accumulated $20 in orders, I will ship out the next business day. Otherwise, as stated in the shipping details, I will ship out within 5 business days. ****PLEASE NOTE, updated****I started with a total of 153 of these previews from DC (20 of which were duplicates), some Marvel, Image and other indie previews. I'm now down to 47 that haven't been posted yet. I have a list of what's left, so feel free to ask, and can cut a break on shipping costs when making custom arrangements for multiple items. Background:During the 1990's, DC comics promoted it's upcoming new titles and special issues by sending black & white previews of the titles to retailers prior to the order date, so retailers could evaluate the issue and decide how many copies to order. Unlike standard bookstores, comics are ordered on a non-returnable basis, so if too many copies were ordered, the retailer had to eat the cost, so retailers would order fewer copies of titles they didn't know anything about. These previews were to give the retailer a better understanding of what they were ordering. Sometimes retailers put the previews out for customers to look at, so they could gauge the customers' interest (rather than simply relying on their own judgement). In the early 90's the previews had heavy stock covers, and were bound with plastic clips (see the last picture in the set for an example) with photocopied pages. Later these were downgraded to just photocopied pages with a staple in the upper left corner. While I intend to sell my bound previews at some point, for now I'm putting the stapled-in-the-corner previews. All of what I am offering in this series are the original copies sent to retailers, not copies of them. The content varied - mostly they were complete issues, with inked art and lettering (lacking only the color); sometimes it was only pencils, or inked art without lettering, or only a partial issue. What I have was what was sent by DC's marketing department (or whoever it was contracted to, if it wasn't done in-house). To be clear, these previews are not bound comics, like some publishers (particularly Acclaim Valiant) distributed, these are stapled copier-paper (though the last time they saw a copier was at the offices of DC Comics).
