Description: You are bidding on an antique (set of 3) Val Saint-Lambert hock/Roemer wine glass set. These are GORGEOUS hand blown hock wine glasses produced between 1900-1920 in Belgium by the world renowned Val Saint-Lambert. Val Saint-Lambert was founded in Belgium in 1826, and was the first and only fine crystal producer in that country. It remains the only fine crystal producer in Belgium to this day. “Hock” wine glasses refer to their size, shape and use. Hock wine glasses have a long stem and small bowl. The unique shape of this glass is built to place the wine on your tongue to trigger certain taste buds to experience the wines sweetness. This wine glass is recommended for use in serving any young or sweet wine. The dimensions of these glasses are approximately 7 1/2 inches tall (19.05 cm), with a bowl diameter of approximately 2 1/2 inches (6.35cm) These glasses are exquisitely hand made giving each piece its own artistic flair. They are crafted of fine, hand blown crystal. The color is created by a double layer of overlaid colored crystal glass, which is then hand cut to clear, revealing an intricate and timeless, swirling wheat pattern. The stems are clear, 6 sided, beveled and diamond faceted cut crystal with clean lines. The stem tapers down to a clear, unadorned base. The simplicity of the stem and foot gives a modern feel and allows the delicate design of the bowl to have center stage. The connection production style between the foot and stem is a hand blown Roemer technique, where the molten glass is circled around before it is flattened. There is a photo showing this detail. The color is extremely rare and desirable. It can be called red, ruby, cranberry or strawberry colored crystal. All three glasses have a slight variation of the reddish color, due to the unique individual handmade process as well as their age. They go from a pretty peachy color to a beautiful deep orangey/red in an almost ombré style. Please see the photos to see the color variations between the 3 glasses. No chips or cracks / excellent condition There are natural inclusions and very tiny air bubbles present in the stems. These help to determine the age of the glass, as well as the technique used to create them. During the early 1900’s, the hand blown glass technique used created naturally occurring air bubbles. A sign of extremely talented glass artisans of that time was to have as little of these bubbles as possible. Today, these “imperfections” are desirable because they are proof of the unique hand made process of each piece. These tiny bubbles can be seen in the photos looking into the glass. You may have to zoom in to spot them. These glasses are unmarked/unsigned, with no maker’s mark, which is consistent and common of antique crystal from that time period and location. Please note the color inclusions pointed out in the last photos. They are NOT cracks in the glass, but imperfections from the coloring/creation process on the interior of the stem. They appear as slight lines. They do not affect the use or integrity of the glasses. I provide fast and very careful packaging to ensure these will get to you quickly and safely! Please contact me with any questions. Thank you for looking and good luck bidding! 🍀😊
