Description: I had a lucky find at an estate auction: a collection of collars and dickies from the 1910-30s. This one is a large dickie with a label identifying it as made by "Jami" with an early US patent number. It is made in the style of a tabard going over the front and back, with an opening in the front center to slip over the head. The front measures 20" long by 10" wide, while the back is 15.5" long and a bit narrower. It starts with a band collar made of two rows of lace. The front and back panels are made of a sheer batiste fabric that has a narrow lace edge all around. All down the front center there are rows of eyelet and embroidered lace flowers, as shown. Beginning 9" below the collar there are ruffles of the same eyelet and embroidery lace: they begin 4" wide on both sides of the collar and narrow down to the center line. In the back the batiste fabric is on its own, as shown. The front is 4" longer than the back, perhaps to go with the pigeon-breast fashion of the 1900-10s. The whole effect is very romantic and pretty. I've taken some photos with a brooch at the top, but that's just a prop and is not included. This is in very good antique condition with no stains, rips, or holes ; it is clean and crisp. The only issue I could find is that one of the side ties is missing. It could be easily replaced or ignored. Just imagine how pretty this will look with a sweater or jacket over it! You could layer it over a darker color for a dramatic look. This one is truly special.
