These can't be found just anywhere! Not, of course, allowed on the uniform, but worn on all manner of off-duty civilian caps and clothing as novelty items. Skull & crossbones and “DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR” are recurring elements on Marine patches. And of course, the famous “GUADALCANAL” legend on the red numeral one identifies the parent unit as 1st Marine Division. Recent Decades: I believe 3/1 was in on the initial ground offensive of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and also served in Iraq in 2004 for OIF II! (Thanks, everyone, for your input!)
