USS Nimitz will remain on station in the gulf to enforce United Nations sanctions against Iraq, by patrolling the “No-Fly” zone during operation “Southern-Watch“. The carrier battle group was directed to the Gulf early by the Secretary of Defense, after Iraqi planes breached the zone several times in the last week.
