It was an unprecedented release for the United States, an issue of 50 different designs on one sheet of stamps, honoring all 50 states of the country. The First day of Release, February 23, 1976, was nationwide in Washington , DC as well as the 50 different state capitals, and other cities. Usually these covers are only found in sets of 50, but we decided to break up the sets so that individual state collectors could obtain their particular state only, in a variety of cachets.
