Description: CHARLES CONRAD. Captain Charles Conrad (1930-1999) was an American NASA astronaut and naval officer who served as the mission commander on the Apollo 12 mission and became the third man to walk on the Moon in November 1969. MAGNIFICENT UNITED STATES ASTRONAUT HALL OF FAME MEDAL PERSONALLY PRESENTED TO AND OWNED BY APOLLO 12 ASTRONAUT CHARLES CONRAD, THE THIRD MAN TO WALK ON THE MOON Magnificent bronze United States Astronaut Hall of Fame medal personally presented to and owned by Apollo 12 astronaut Charles Conrad in recognition of his induction at the Kennedy Space Center at Merritt Island, Florida. Features the bold, beautifully designed profile of an astronaut in a spacesuit looking up to the stars encircled by the large text, “U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame,” and contains a small plaque affixed on the bottom edge that reads, “Charles Conrad Jr., March 20, 1993.” Contains the original bright blue ribbon, measures 3 inches in diameter, produced by the Medallic Art Company in Dayton, Nevada, and in fine condition with only minor wearing from use. CONTAINS A SMALL PLAQUE AFFIXED ON THE BOTTOM EDGE THAT READS, “CHARLES CONRAD JR., MARCH 20, 1993.” The Astronaut Hall of Fame was formed in the 1980s by the surviving Mercury Seven Astronauts and Betty Grissom to establish a place where space travelers could be remembered and honored. Conrad was inducted on March 20, 1993, along with Neil Armstrong, Gene Cernan, James Lovell, John Young, James McDivitt, and Edward White. Al Worden’s US Astronaut Hall of Fame medal recently sold for $4,043 at RR Auction in April 2021; however, Worden only orbited the moon unlike Conrad who set foot on the lunar surface. A remarkable piece that honors the third moonwalker.
