The 1909 Indian cent was the last year the Indian cent was minted and the first and the only year where the Indian cents were struck from a master hub including the date, giving this year the distinctpossibility of (double die) mint errors. This piece is an example of a DDO mint error (double die obverse) that consists of doubling of the designer's initial "L" on the ribbon, which appears as a smaller L slightly above the base of the designer's initial on the ribbon. These are scarce and a popular mint error variety for Indian cent collectors, as they are sold at auction and listed in the price guides such as the PCGS price guide (shown in listing photo gallery).
