As a hermit monk who lived in a remote cave in Glendalough, Ireland, during the 7th century, he would have been in contact with many wild animals and would have had a mystical affinity with them as part of the Lord's creation. That's what is so great about this saint, all these stories and legends! One of them concerns St Kevin holding his arms out in prayer, when a blackbird landed on one of his hands, built a nest, and laid an egg. The kindly saint stayed just the way he was until the egg was hatched and the baby bird was able to fly away! Another story is that St Kevin lived to age 120.St Kevin is a great role model for today's youth, especially young men who might be considering a religious life; St Kevin is also asked for help with great challenges or seemingly impossible dreams, too - as his life illustrates that anything is possible with God.
