Description: ANTIQUE BRASS DECORATIVE FIGURESA very unusual and imposing pair of antique brass flat-backed Renaissance style figures of ladies with flowing dresses and long stoles scrolling to a vertical terminal. Of unknown original usage (although probably mounts), they have been historically fixed upon slim steel plinths to form very decorative pieces with a variety of potential display uses, such as either side of a mantelpiece or fireplace. The figures could also potentially be used as doorstops but only if the 8mm thick plinths will tuck under the bottom of the doors to stop them toppling over. Date: mid to late 19th Century. Condition. Good decorative condition. The brass has recently been professionally cleaned to the front faces leaving some tarnish in the crevices which helps to highlight the design of the garments and detail of the features. The rear faces have tarnished gilt, suggesting they were originally ormolu finished all over. They have been mounted upon the plinths for a very long time by the age of the screws. The plinths have mild surface rust. One figure leans slightly backwards.Dimensions: per item Height: 42.3 cm (16-5/8") Width: 23.2 cm (9-1/8") Plinth width: 18.8 cm (7-3/8") Plinth depth: 5 cm (2") Plinth thickness (height): 0.8 cm (5/16")Weight: 4.7 kg combined.Stock number: AC2901
