Description: This offering is for an antique mid 19th century hand made doll body. The body measures app. 9.5" long not counting the remains of the shoulder plate head. The poor lass has lost her head at some point, possibly from an interaction with a guillotine. The head and shoulder plate were made of what appears to have been clay which was very solid and quite heavy and it looks like it had been entirely hand formed. There is a pronounced rim around the bottom of the shoulder which allowed the cloth to be pulled over the lip and held in place mainly with just friction. She has composition hand and feet, there are minor losses to them as seen in our photo's. Most of the sewing was done by hand but it looks like the seam down one side was done by machine, possibly a later repair?
