Description: This print is one of the largest, highest quality photogravures I have in my collection. It is from a very rare portfolio of high quality "elephant folio" size photogravure prints from the 1880s. This image depicts a lovely view of the University of California at Berkeley, as it looked over 120 years ago! a little girl runs in the foreground as a horse-drawn carriage passes in the background. The artist is George Spiel. Tons of detail in this print, and beautiful tones. This would look wonderful framed. This incredibly beautiful steel-plate photogravure is single-sided and on thick paper. It has a blank back. You can clearly see the plate indentation in the outer margin, indicating the quality of the original printing. There is a detatched tissue overlay included, with describes the print. PLEASE NOTE there is light staining in the upper right white margin area of this print. It does not show up in the scan. By 19th Century standards, this is a HUGE photogravure. The page measures approx. 15.75 x 11 inches (40x28cm), and the actual image area is about 10.75 x 7 inches.
