He was the Gold Commanding Officer of the Ulysses S. Grant (SSBN-631), commanded the USS Barbero (SSG-317), and is a June 1947 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1948. USS Ulysses S. Grant (SSBN-631), a James Madison-class fleet ballistic missile submarine, was the third shipa of the United States Navy to be named for Ulysses S.
