Description: What we have here today is an opportunity to own a piece of Chris King history with an ultra rare set of of Chris King Classic hubs that are one of only a very small handful produced. The story goes that many years ago there was a fire at the King manufacturing facility and there were a handful of parts that survived and were considered good enough to be functional. However, their quality on the outside of the shells wasn't good enough for the typical anodized colors that they usually make them, so they had them put through the camouflage coloring that was used for paintball guns at the time, making each set unique. There are very few bit of information out there on these, and one site mentioned that these may be one of only 5 sets produced. That may or may not be true, but as a long time King hub fan myself, I've only ever seen 1 other set online, so how many remain out there in the world is unknown. I purchased this set a long time ago already built into a wheelset that was pretty dirty and used at the time, but upon receiving, I took the wheelset apart, cleaned the hubs up, and they've been on display in a showcase ever since. I hate to let them go, but it's finally time for them to find a new home. As of today, I took the rear hub apart with the King hub tool and cleaned and serviced the ring drive mechanism making sure to use King ring drive lube. The bearings are all smooth and the ring drive works like a champ with that classic angry bee sound King is known for. There are no structural issues with these hubs that I can see, but you can see in the photos that the condition of the finish is less than perfect. They look to have a good bit of fading on the shells, and the finish is worn off entirely down to silver aluminum on the non drive side end of the rear hub shell, which is shown in the pictures. I've included a picture of the rear hub all torn down so you can see that it's all clean inside and out. The weight of these hubs is 261g rear, 112g front. The width is for a standard quick release frame and forks with a 100mm front hub, and a 135mm rear, which with the purchase of a different endcap, can easily be changed to a 130mm to fit road bikes. The driveshell is the aluminum version. Hubs will be packed with care and sent using USPS Priority Mail.
