The 93rd Mechanized Brigade "Kholodnyi Yar" ("Cold Wind Ravine") is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. In October 2022 American military correspondent David Axe described the formation as "one of the most brutally effective" of Ukraine’s front-line brigades. By January 2023, Western analysts claimed that due to captured Russian and donated Western equipment and incorporation of local volunteer battalions into the units structure, the 93rd was the size of an armored division rather than a mechanized brigade all but in name.The name of the brigade is in honor of the insurgent Kholodnoyarsk Republic, which existed on the territory of the Ukrainian People's Republic from 1919 to 1922. Black raven - in honor of Ivan Chernousov, one of the chieftains of the Kholodnoyarsk Republic, who had this nickname. Zaliznyak oak is an 1,100-year-old oak named after the Cossack chieftain Maksym Zaliznyak. It grows on the territory of the Kholodny Yar tract.There is a hard Velcro on the back of patches (chevrons).
