Description: Two stereoscopes with flaws. One is an Underwood & Underwood made in New York with a patent of 11 June 1901. The viewer is constructed of aluminum & wood. The bottom of the wood extension arm has a patent marking mentioning the manufacturer & the patent date. The top of the aluminum casing with the glass lenses has an embossed stamping with a sunburst design & a U. & U. trademark. The aluminum which has some bends is heavily oxidized with some spotting & could use a cleaning. The original folding handle is present. But, the wood sliding section which would hold the card is missing. The viewer measures 12 1/4 inches long by 7 1/2 inches tall. The weight is 6.2 ounces. The other one is probably an H. C. White patented on July 28, 1903. But, we are not entirely certain as to this maker & date. We apparently figured out this info from another H.C. White we saw at some point. But, we did not take proper notes at that time. So, please use your own judgement as to the maker on this one. The top of the casing with the glass pieces has a pressed in marking of an eagle holding arrows in its claws insignia. This stereoviewer is interesting in that it is made of steel & wood. The long arm which sticks out & the back of the casing holding the glass pieces are both made of steel. The front piece of the lens casing is made of wood. The steel casing with the glass pieces has some of the original random copper flashing plating present. However, much of that plating is gone. There is considerable rust on the steel casing as well as the steel extension arm. The original slide piece which holds the card is present. But, the handle is missing. This is an interesting model with the "V" shaped piece of metal which sticks out in the front at the middle of the two glass lense pieces. This viewer measures 11 1/2 inches long by 6 7/8 inches across the wood slide that holds the card. The weight is 10.2 ounces. Please examine the photos closely & purchase based on your own judgement as to condition & value. This item is inventory #10638.
