Description: Two (2) Chrome Postcards both advertising MAC WOOD'S SAND DUNE RIDES at Silver Lake, Mears Michigan. The cards were published by Penrod / Hiawatha Card Company, Berrien Center MI. Both cards are unposted. Both in very good condition (see photos to confirm). Will ship via eBay Standard envelope with tracking to U.S. addresses only. No international sales. The construction of the Dune Ride vehicles started in 1930, and they were coined with the name Dunesmobiles. The first Dune Scooter was designed from a Model A Ford and carried 4 or 5 passengers. The sum of twenty-five cents was charged for this exciting ride. Today they use 4-wheel drive modified vehicles (shown on these two postcards) with 4 aircraft tires to carry about 16 persons per ride. Woods first offered dune rides only to guests staying at Flora-Dale Resort on Silver Lake, but soon opened them to the public. He added more scooters to his fleet over time, including Ford convertibles (1934, 1936 and 1948), a Dodge Power Wagon, a 1960 Studebaker, a 1968 International and others. The Woods family sold Flora-Dale Resort in 1960 but continued operating Mac Woods Dune Scooter Rides. Today, fourth-generation members of the Woods family still operate the dune rides and lease state-owned land at Silver Lake State Park in Mears. Mac Wood's Dune Rides is still a very popular attraction located in Silver Lake, Michigan. They offer a unique 40-minute, 7-mile dune tour that takes you through the beautiful Silver Lake Sand Dunes. You'll get to see stunning views of Lake Michigan, Silver Lake, and the surrounding dunes. The ride is suitable for all ages and is accessible to the mobility impaired.
