Description: Twelfth Night Shakespeare's Globe Emma Rice Joshua Lacey All Regions DVD.This is a production of Shakespeare's greatest comedy. The director of the stage production, Emma Rice, did some interesting things with this play, changing up genders and races for some of the principal roles. For example, Feste is played by the quite flamboyant self-described "black, bearded, plus size drag queen" who goes by the name "Le Gateau Chocalat." Anita-Joy Uwajeh plays Viola and Tony Jayawardena plays Toby Belch. It all makes for a very energetic and unforgettable production. Ian Russell directed the film. This one doesn't seem to be available other than the way I got it, by mail order directly from Shakespeare's Globe. The recent DVD's like this one are all region DVD's that will play on any region of DVD player. The play is performed in Shakespeare's Globe, the theater founded around the turn of the millennium along the Thames River in London, built to resemble the theater used in Shakespeare's time for his plays. For those who haven't been there, this is a 180 degree view theater with lots of covered seating in the back and, as in Shakespeare's time, a large space for "groundlings" to stand near the stage.
