You could pay a garage to test you car, but the truth is that using this kit, you don't need to, as it is easy to do, and it will pay for itself, in the saving on garage time, the first time you use the kit. But why should you test your system? It might be that you simply want to do a health check of your system to see if the boost pressure produced by your turbo, is actually getting into the engine to produce maximum power, and not leaking through hairline cracks in your pipes/hoses, manifolds, etc. It also could be you have a noticeable problem with your engine such as cutting out, getting hot (running lean), down on power, or just not quite not what it used to be. While this could be many things, until you test your air system, you wont know if your air system is actually holding the boost pressure produced by your turbo, such as through leaks in hairline splits/cracks in your pipes and hoses, or through gaskets and connections. I have worked as a VW/Audi mechanic for 18 years, and have used this kit to find problems with the boost of turbo systems, air leaks in the pipes, cracks in intake manifold, etc. WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE KIT? The kit comes with ALL ITEMS YOU SEE IN THE PICTURE. This is : 1 x White 2” (51mm) HOSE Insert, fitted with a 30 PSI (2 Bar) Pressure Gauge as standard 1 x Tyre Pressure Connection (Schrader Valve) with flexible 7" extension so you can securely attach your airline/Tyre pump before attaching to the white hose insert (which has the fitted valve, located behind the gauge). 1 x Blue Silicone attachment to fit 1.75” connections (45mm), colour may vary (red, blue or black) 2 x stainless steel hose clips for securing all connections Full Instructions for use, 12 Month Warranty on all components WHAT ELSE DO I NEED? I supply full instructions with the kit, which comes with pictures, and a step by step procedure. All you need to use the kit is either a compressor with a regulator (to regulate the air flow to the tester) and a tyre connection, or a bicycle/foot pump. Depending on your system you may need something like a wine cork or etc, to plug your crankcase breather line, this is explained in the intructions. Anything will do, wine cork, bottle tops, etc. A compressor with regulator (to turn the pressure down) is advised. Screwfix sell cheap ones (less than £99), and they are great to a have, a tyre pump can be used, but this only works on a healthy system with only very minor leakage, as due to pumping noise it is difficult to locate and/or keep up with major leaks. I am testing alternative options such as mini (cigarette lighter) 12v compressors, and will report my findings shortly. WHAT CARS WILL THIS KIT FIT? This kit will fit cars with a 2” Hose/Turbo/Pipe and/or 1.75" Turbo/Flange connections in the air system, in metric measurements this is 51mm and 45mm. See below more details on fitting, examples and how to check your hose/connection size before buying. HOW CAN I CHECK WHAT SIZE I NEED TO BUY? To check what size you need to buy simply remove your pipe/hose at a convenient access point, such as after the air flow meter, or air filter, and look at the connection. Do you want to connect to a hose which in Systems terms is a female connection (see picture 2 below) OR do you want to connect to a flange such as the Turbo, which in Systems terms is a male connection (see picture 1 below)? Once you have decided, using the picture below, measure the fitting. For male connections such as a turbo or flange, you use the red attachments, and the white insert For female connections (hoses) you use the white insert only which is 2". Here is an EXAMPLE picture on a VW mk4 golf 1.9 (this is a 2.75" connection), for this application you need my bigger 2.75" tester Here is another example on the SAME golf, note that you often have a choice of male (flange) or female (hose) connections on the same car, just at different access points.
