Description: Tucson, ARIZONA - Arizona Inn - 1936: Since 1930 the Arizona Inn has specialized in creating a unique environment for those visiting Tucson, Arizona. According to the Arizona Inn website, the hotel has been family owned and operated since 1930. The hotel was once operated by Isabella Greenway, Arizona's first Congresswoman and friend to Eleanor Roosevelt. The hotel has remained in the Greenway family for four generations. The Arizona Inn has continuously been renovated and protected by the Greenway family since 1930, according to the Arizona Inn website. The Arizona Inn was added to the Register of Historic Places in 1988 because of the history the building holds. Originally called, "The Arizona Hut", the Inn was first built as a place for disabled veterans after World War I to enable them to find jobs. It was once a furniture shop that housed travelers, but eventually became a hotel. In an effort to preserve the hotel’s unique history and identity, the hotel has an on-site furniture making shop to continue to develop iconic furniture, keeping the unique and historic identity the hotel holds. Guests today can find an inn that feels like a family estate, while enjoying a sophisticated desert retreat which continues, after eight decades, to fulfill Isabella Greenway’s promise of privacy, serenity, and sunshine. The Arizona Inn has become an iconic landmark to the city of Tucson and has earned the designation on the National Register of Historic Places, according to the website.
