There is a wonderful history behind this wonderful collection of recipes: This locally "famous" Treasured Italian Recipes cookbook was compiled by Miele Calabrese Battaglini in the late 1980s. One year, as Miele struggled to recall one of her favorite Christmas Eve recipes, which she had committed to memory, it occurred to her that with the passing of the Mothers of her generation, the most valuble recipes would be lost. She set out on a journey to preserve her culinary heritage by asking family and close friends to provide their favorite recipe, with the intention of printing copies of these receipes for their own personal use. The response to her idea was great and quickly snowballed until she had received recipes from almost every Italian family in her town of East Rochester, New York. The local Rotary Club agreed to assist this community effort by financing the publication and distribution of the cookbook, which was first printed in 1989. The cookbook has 202 pages and is loaded with authentic, yet simple, Italian recipes broken in to tabbed sections: Appetizers & Salads, Fish & Meats, Pasta & Rice, Vegetables, Biscuits, Pizza & Breads, Sauces & Soups and Cookies & Desserts.
