Constructed with a resilient, tough and very hard beech wood, this Chinese Tai Chi sword is capable of being used for contact swordplay, although more commonly it is used as a shadow practice sword (a training sword for movement through the air). This Taiji sword is relatively lightweight and very comfortable to use for long periods of drill, and is much safer for practice than dulled steel blade sparring swords. It will also resist fracture and indentation to a much higher degree in comparison to many other wood species, which is a bonus for long-term use in swordplay.
