Victor J "Trader Vic" Bergeron (December 10, 1902, San Francisco, California -- October 11, 1984, Hillsborough, California) founded a multimillion-dollar food and drink empire called Trader Vic's. He is credited with inventing the Mai Tai, and was a well-known, colorful figure in the San Francisco area ( and beyond) , eventually opening 20 restaurants.
