Already in print are "Los Angeles Pacific" and "Los Angeles & Redondo," and the fourth, "Electric Railways of Ontario & Pomona; will be published shortly. It all began with the presentation to the author in 1941 of a large book of press clippings maintained over the years by Pacific Electric's San Bernardino office; although incomplete, the collection served to whet the appetite and thus began what is by all odds the most intensive period of research (lasting almost eighteen months) yet carried out for an INTERURBANS publication. To obtain the facts upon which the book is based, it was necessary to read several daily newspapers for every day of every year from 1898 through 1912---for the official PE histories (also contained herein) of its component companies in the Orange Empire were, it turned out, quite superficial.
