Description: TOM'S STEAK HOUSE Melrose Park, Illinois 1950s(?) Vintage Matchbook Cover Description: Here's a nice vintage standard-sized matchbook cover from Tom's Steak House, located on W. North Ave. in Melrose Park, Illinois. It was Air Conditioned and offered Charcoal Broiled Steaks and Cocktails. The telephone number is shown in the old style as "FILLMORE 5-2766". Advertising on the inside stated the place was "HOME of the OPEN HEARTH and the HICKORY CHARCOAL BROILED STEAK". You could "Watch your steaks broiled to your own taste". Also offered were "KINGSIZE COCKTAILS". Produced by Superior Match Co., Chicago, U.S.A. Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed) Date: Not dated, but that old-style phone number probably puts it in the 1950s (or perhaps early 1960s) Condition: Good, I'd say. The cover is quite clean and the striker strip doesn't seem to show any actual use. However, the striker strip area has noticeable damage from the rough removal of the staple that held the matches. There's also an additional pinhole which passes through the striker strip and the back of the cover. (Please see scans.)
