The WPA portion mentions the Cleage Home in Sweetwater, Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, the town of Charleston where the Cherokee Indian "Great Removal" began, Chief Jack Walker, the blockhouse at Benton, Tennga on the Georgia border, Ducktown, Ocoee Dam at Parksville, etc. The booklet also includes a section entitled "Gatewood Raid through Polk County" taken from the appendix of History of the Rebellion in Bradley County, East Tennessee written by J.S. Hurlburt in 1866. This concerns the 1864 raid made by the Rebel guerrilla John P. Gatewood primarily through Polk County, in which a number of Yankee sympathizers were robbed and murdered.
