Description: The Titanic Display is 12 x 5 x 6 LED lighted Display. Inside is a Diecast replica of the famous Titanic ship with a picture of the Iceberg that was responsible for sinking the Titanic. The only ship of the day with 4 steam stacks. The Titanic was considered the World"s first Unsinkable ship. On it's first voyage it would prove that statement to be false as it struck an iceberg and sunk with the lost of 1500 lives. Short of life boats in the frigid waters of the Antarctica. Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard the Titanic when it struck an iceberg and sank on April 15, 1912, some 1,500 died in the cold waters of the North Atlantic. A mere 700 people lived on. In a eerie literary coincidence, Morgan Robertson authored a novel called Futility in 1898 about a fictional British passenger liner. In the novel the ship is the SS Titan, a four-stacked liner, the largest in the world and considered unsinkable. And like the Titanic, she sinks after hitting an iceberg on her maiden voyage and does not have enough lifeboats. The RMS Titanic was the world's largest passenger ship when it entered service, measuring 269 metres (882 feet) in length, and the largest man-made moving object on Earth. With the Atlantic Ocean’s temperature below zero, many people died within minutes of entering the water. The ship’s baker, Charles Joughin, however, survived for two hours, claiming he could not feel the cold as he was blind-drunk on whiskey. The iceberg caused a crack of over 200 feet along Titanic’s starboard side. The size of the rupture meant five of the forward compartments flooded, with the ship’s design allowing for four to flood safely. Only three of its four funnels were needed to release steam from the boilers, which were burning through 650 tons of coal every day. The fourth was added for decoration only, as the designers thought it would make Titanic look bigger. Great Conversational piece. Cool decor for Office or Home. Makes a great one of a kind gift for the historian in your life. Get yours while supplies last. The Titanic the World's Most Famous Ship! .
