Description: (TILSHEAD/JAMES UPSHALL+"AVON" YORKIST/by COMOYS?) *N.MINT* English Estate Pipes Two English straight pipes, a large (similar to Dunhill's Group 6 in size) handmade billiard by James Upshall for the Tilshead series, and an also large (similar to Dunhill's Group 4 in size) lovat by AVON. On the internet we can find the information that AVON pipes are most probably made by Comoy's or Ben Wade. The style of this pipe does not look like a Ben Wade so we believe it is a Comoy's. The Tilshead is a wonderful pipe, with no visible fills, excellent flame grains and beautiful fish-tail stem. Some factory fills can be distinguished on the AVON. Both pipes have been made some time in the 1950s-1970s (with the AVON being the oldest), and are in near mint condition. The longest pipe has approximate length 158 mm (6.22"), bowl height 49 mm (1.93"), chamber depth 44 mm (1.73"), chamber diameter 19 mm (0.75") and weighs 41 gr (1.45 oz). Shank Marks : TILSHEAD, ENGLAND, MADE BY HAND The shorter has approximate length 144 mm (5.67"), bowl height 43 mm (1.69"), chamber depth 36 mm (1.42"), chamber diameter 18 mm (0.71") and weighs 38 gr (1.34 oz). Shank Marks : "AVON", YORKIST, BRITISH MADE Both pipes do not take filters and have original vulcanite stems.
