The movie tells the story of two convicts who, over the course of several years, form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion. Upon it's release, The Shawshank Redemption was nominated for seven Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. It's score was composed by multiple award winner Thomas Newman. The score was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1994, which was Newman's first Oscar nomination.
