Reviewers of this title comment: “With laser precision Thomas Howard takes us . . . to the shimmering significance of this world,” and describe the book as “Achingly beautiful and concise.” Dr. Peter Kreeft, professor of philosophy at Boston College and The King's College, offers: "If I could have everyone in our culture read just ten books, this would be one of them." RARE PRINTER'S ERROR: This extremely collectible volume displays an extraordinary misprint on the spine: where the author's name should have appeared as “Howard," here it reads “Thomas.” Such a prominent printer's error bears directly upon the priority of issue of this volume over other copies of the same First Edition. Email correspondence with the author, Dr. Howard, confirms that he recalls what he terms “the Thomas anomaly” but was never shown nor given a copy of it. Moreover – so far as he knows – such flawed inaugural volumes had been “caught at the publisher's,” i.e., had been destroyed. Only a handful somehow survived. This is one of them, and the only one known still in brand new condition. Laid in with the book is a typed letter from the author in 1982, not related to this volume. The letter, signed “Tom” on his personal stationery, reflects on Dr. Howard's [then] possible conversion to Roman Catholicism, which eventually occurred in 1985 when he was fifty years old. Another Shaw First Edition of this title was listed on the internet in only “good” condition for nearly $1,300 without the “Thomas anomaly” and with no signed letter from the author.
