It was the sixth of the Doolittle Raiders launched from the U.S.S. Hornet. Lawson and his crew crashed on the China coast after the aircraft ran out of fuel. Lawson lost his left leg in the crash, but survived the mission. Lawson signed the Craig Kodera painting, which was based on Lawson’s remembrances.
