He was the one in the white tent. This is the work of Jeff Leedy, nationally known fine art humorist. After graduating from Syracuse U. last century, Leedy began a 15-year career in advertising after being told, "Advertising is the most fun you can have with your clothes on." Hah! They lied. Several big NY ad agencies including Y&R used his talents until he braved his way to San Francisco in 1974 where he won a Clio, the "Oscar" of advertising. In 1978 he freelanced as a humorous illustrator for eight white-knuckle years. After that, it was time to go out on his own. "God gave me this strange set of contact lenses and this is how I see life." Then, two turning points happened simultaneously in 1989. First, Leedy entered-and won-a gold medal in the NY Society of Illustrators first Humor Show, beating out 3500 international entries. And second, his new work was accepted into the Sausalito Art Festival, the #1 outdoor art festival, (where hes exposed himself for 18 years). His wife and business partner, Elaine, says he has sold over 250,000 of his works so far. Then he asks her, "So, wheres the money?" Her laugh is not pretty. The welcome and acceptance in his two former galleries in Sausalito and Mendocino, California (now closed) and at the hundreds of juried outdoor art shows has been overwhelming.
