Description: Maker: On the base of this lovely covered sugar bowl is mark number 34 of the Theodore Haviland company, one of the great Limoges firms at the turn of the last century. This mark was in use between 1904 and 1925. Source: third edition of the Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston. Design: The pattern is called Marie. It's on Haviland's blank number 118. The sugar bowl is beautifully hand painted with tiny pink roses and delicate blue bows in keeping with the exceptionally high quality that made the company's porcelain so famous and so coveted. Gold daubs and sculpted gold-trimmed handles add an additional touch of distinction. Many of the great Limoges companies produced variations of the classic and hugely popular pattern of delicate pink roses against a pure white background. That means this sugar bowl would easily blend into similar sets by many other Limoges makers. And of course, it would make a beautiful display on its own or as part of any collection of fine china. Condition: It has no marks, nicks, stains, discoloration, repairs, crazing or significant wear. There is a small chip on the upper edge that leads to a small faint crack - it's shown in the photos with the red arrow. Size: The bowl is 3 3/4 inches wide at the top, 4 3/8 inches wide at the base and 3 5/8 inches tall without the lid. The two pieces together weigh 11.1 ounces. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
