Description: The Trees, Conrad Richter, 1940, Knopf, 1st edition. - 5.75 x 8 inches approx.; approx. 302 pages; hdbk. - extra included: pamphlet produced by the publishers. Wikipedia: This is the first book in the "The Awakening Land" trilogy about an American frontier family living in Ohio. The Trees was followed by The Fields (1946) and The Town (1950). A single-volume trilogy was published in 1966. The Trees is a moving novel of the beginning of the American trek to the west. Toward the close of the eighteenth century, the land west of the Alleghenies and north of the Ohio River was an unbroken sea of trees. Beneath them the forest trails were dark, silent, and lonely, brightened only by a few lost beams of sunlight. Condition: Very Good Condition for this vintage novel. Cover shows almost no wear...looks newish. Hinges/binding are tight/strong. No owner name inside. Age-tanning to paper found only on first and last few pages...none apparent in interior. Interior is clean....no stains, marks, tears or creases. DJ is also VGd. Robust for normal use.
