Description: For Sale is a Copy of "The Seismicity of Egypt, Arabia and the Red Sea: a historical review," by N.N. Ambraseys, C.P. Melville and R.D. Adams (2005). This is a digitally printed copy of the book that was first published in 1994. The book is 181 pages long and a rather tall and slender volume, but packed with fascinating information derived from all kinds of historical records. Contains numerous charts and maps of seismicity in Egypt, Arabia and the Red Sea. It is in excellent condition with minor cover corner bends. Interesting information can be found on each page: page 30: "A major earthquake in the Hejaz and northwest Arabia occurred during the morning and was reported to have killed in all about 20,000 people . . . In Tabuk, three new springs of water appeared at a place called al-Qur, and in Taima the ground was split open to reveal buried treasures of gold and golden jewelry." 55: In 1546 an earthquake struck Jerusalem-"The Patriarch of Jerusalem reported the effects of the earthquake on the belfry of the Holy Sepulchre, which fell onto the Church of Resurrection. The bell-tower of the church in Bethlehem also fell." A fascinating and tremendously well-researched volume and review of the historical records pertaining to earthquakes in this particular part of the world. Would be great for anyone studying Middle Eastern history, earthquakes or just curious about the seismic activity in the region over time. This will be shipped via USPS Media Mail.
