Description: The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorn Published by Henry Altemus Company 1905. This a reprint of the second edition which was originally published in 1850. It has very nice illustrations and a lovely blue cover with daffodils and gold filigree. The book has the original owner's stamp on the inside cover and a very interesting historical note dated 1963 from the owner's descendant describing her trips to Salem and Plymouth Rock where her ancestor stepped of the Mayflower. The binding is tight, the pages suitably yellowed but quite readable. There is slight wear at the corners. The offering includes some charming newspaper clippings of Lilian Gish starring in the 'filimization' of Nathaniel Hawthorne's immortal novel 'The Scarlet Letter'.
