With so many editions, changes, and interpretations available, Chris does a fantastic job of offering context and helpful past performance practices, while still leaving room for your own ideas. Furthermore, the historical background and information he provides sheds light into Stravinskys compositional process, which is an invaluable tool for anyone who performs this piece. This is a must read for all percussionists. BRAVO, Chris!" -Jauvon GilliamPrincipal Timpanist, National Symphony Orchestra"It is fun to read and brings up some great points which give us some interesting things to think about, and strive for, when performing this great work."-Jeffrey FischerPrincipal Timpanist, Boston Ballet and Boston Lyric Opera Orchestras"This is an essential contribution. Stravinskys scores are notoriously treacherous for percussionists (see: LHistoire du soldat). In this work, Chris is able to create an engaging and personal map for any percussionist to succeed in a performance of another behemoth: The Rite of Spring. For a conductor, this type of knowledge is essential as throughout the work, performers will rely on the conductors sound preferences for choice of equipment and execution. Chris details the essential places where this will be sure to happen and I now feel better prepared to conduct this work and vitally aware of the host of options available to me as an interpreter."-John DevlinMusic Director, Wheeling Symphony Orchestra"Written in a clear and concise style, this is an invaluable addition to scholarship devoted to Stravinskys Rite of Spring. Chris DeChiara has provided an outstanding roadmap to one of the towering masterpieces of the 20th century. The Rite of Spring, A Percussionists Guide, is essential reading for conductors and percussionists preparing this complex masterpiece."-Emil de Cou, Music Director, Pacific Northwest Ballet; Conductor, National Symphony Orchestra at Wolf Trap Details ISBN0578760711 Short Title The Rite of Spring Language English Year 2020 ISBN-10 0578760711 ISBN-13 9780578760711 Format Paperback Subtitle A Percussionists Guide Pages 108 Author Chris Dechiara Publisher Chris Dechiara Publication Date 2020-11-09 UK Release Date 2020-11-09 Imprint Chris Dechiara Audience General We've got this At The Nile, if you're looking for it, we've got it.
