Description: For sale today is an amazing aquatint lithograph titled Hawking., The Rendezvous. The original painting is by FC Turner, the engraving is by RG Reeve. Published in London in 1839 by IW Laird. This litho is in excellent condition and it appears to have been behind glass for probably a hundred years or more. The matting is Velvet, the frame appears to be walnut, but has some damage to it where it was screwed to a wall, presumably in a restaurant. The frame definitely needs to be cleaned and repaired if you're going to keep it. The matte is a beautiful burgundy velvet, the engraving itself, is in excellent condition. The backing has come away from the frame a little bit but I will leave that to the new owner who may want to rematte and reframe this wonderful piece. This wonderful piece is annotated on the back with garden room smaller coaching 889. Not sure what any of that means except that perhaps it was galleried in a room titled "the garden room", once again indicating that this might have been hung in a very nice restaurant. It is difficult to see how beautiful this etching really is because of the glare on the glass.
