Group 15-4901 There is a 3/16" tear at the front right mid-lower edge, plus holes at the staples -- plus a 1-1/2" vertical tear along the upper spine edge -- otherwise average condition for an "underground" publication of over 60 years, with wear & chipping to edges & corners, plus creases, scratches, indentations, folds, tears, browning pages, rub-wear, soiling, foxing, etc -- overall condition Good Minus Years before NATIONAL LAMPOON, a modest little "adult satire" underground magazine was born, the brainchild of PAUL KRASSNER, who had decided that MAD MAGAZINE was becoming far too tame, and that more mature adults needed a more controversial and biting satire publication. Borrowing a few chops from MARK TWAIN, H. L. MENCKEN, JONATHAN SWIFT, AMBROSE BIERCE, WILL ROGERS, WALT KELLY and others, Krassner stirred up the contents, and created THE REALIST in 1958; and, current events being what they are, THE REALIST stuck around until 2001, a couple years after Krassner himself had died.
