Description: This Phantom pin is in very good condition. I don’t see any dings or scratches. I do see a slight darkening in the enamel coating near the edge of the pin to the right of the Phantom image and also some rusting on the bottom wire pin on the back side of the button which is quite normal for something this old. The pin originally came out of a Kellogg’s PEP Cereal box back in the 40’s! Measures 3/4-inch in diameter. On outer side of pin reads: COPR. 1946 KING FEATURES SYN. INC. On back of pin reads: Kellogg’s PEP The original PEP Cereal box says: "They’re printed in full color! Enameled on metal!" Made in the U.S.A. Will come in a plastic film protector (as seen in one of the photos) and double boxed for protection during shipping. Any and all questions welcomed. Here’s the history of these comic pinback button pins: Beginning around 1943, the Kellogg’s Company inserted a give-away collectible in the form of small tin litho pinback buttons into specially marked boxes of Kellogg’s PEP Cereal. In 1945 the first comic characters series was issued. New series were added periodically over the next two years until a total of 86 different comic characters appeared. The Phantom character was issued in 1946. The Phantom pinback is hard to find, especially in great condition like the one in this listing!!! It is very much a sought-after collectable. Someone in my father’s family collected these pins out of PEP Cereal boxes almost 80 years ago! My father being the youngest of six kids was most likely the one who collected them. They were stored away in my grandma’s attic only to be discovered several years later. I have a number of these pinbacks, but only one Phantom pin which is featured in this listing.
