History/Details: History: · Moving pictures were first seen in Mexico on 14 August 1896, at an exhibition of the Lumière Cinématographe in Mexico City. By the following year, newsreels and actualities were being shot by local filmmakers, and by 1905 local entrepreneurs were involved in film production and exhibition. · Serial Details: Rudolph C. Flothow produced and B. Reeves Eason directed "The Phantom," a 15-chapter black-and-white Saturday serial released in 1943 that ended with a cliffhanger each week. This impressive serial benefited from contributions from various notable artists and authors, including Lee Falk, Tom Tyler, Jeanne Bates, Iron Eyes Cody, Robert Barron, Rudolph C. Flothow, George Chesebro, Wade Crosby, Angelo Cruz, Sherman L. Lowe, Ernie Adams, Ray Moore, Victor McLeod, Early Cantrell, John Bagni, B. Reeves Eason, Edmund Cobb, Leslie Swabacker, Morgan Cox, and Anthony Caruso. · Storyline: Frank Shannon portrays Professor Davidson, who embarks on a quest to discover the Lost City of Zoloz in Africa with his niece Diana Palmer, played by Jeanne Bates. Legend has it that the city harbors a significant hidden treasure, and the location is revealed on seven ivory pieces, three of which Davidson already possesses. Local gangster Singapore Smith, played by Joe Devlin, has stolen the other three pieces, causing an obstacle in Davidson's pursuit.
