Description: The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci, Vol. II by Leonardo Da Vinci Estimated delivery 3-12 business days Format Paperback Condition Brand New Description Volume 2 of 2-volume set. Total of 1,566 extracts reveal full range of Leonardo's versatile genius: his writings on painting, sculpture, architecture, anatomy, mining, inventions, music. Dual Italian-English texts, with 186 plates, plus faithful reproductions of more than 500 additional drawings. Publisher Description Throughout his life Leonardo da Vinci carried notebooks in which he scribbled down ideas and opinions as they occurred - personal, domestic, scientific, philosophical, artistic - frequently accompanied by explanatory sketches and diagrams. Surviving manuscripts contain drafts of letters, fanciful fables, rough treatises on the art of painting or the power of water, descriptions of the Medici courts, even jokes. The present selection gives coherence to this rich kaleidoscope of ideas. From it emerges the portrait of a true Renaissance man, whose habit of rigorous enquiry, observation, and experiment, grounded on a philosophic system, led him to conceive of the universe as an organized cosmos corresponding to a work of art. Author Biography Often called the Universal Man, this genius in science, engineering, aeronautics, technology was also one of the worlds greatest painters, as well as a sculptor, an architect, and a town planner. Born in Vinci, Leonardo was apprenticed as a 14-year-old to the sculptor-painter Andrea Verrocchio in Florence. In 1482, he went to Milan as a military engineer, sculptor, and architect, and remained there for 17 years. While in Milan, he designed the crossing tower of the Milan cathedral and, among many other works, painted The Last Supper (1496--97), a mural in the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazi Details ISBN 0486225739 ISBN-13 9780486225739 Title The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci, Vol. II Author Leonardo Da Vinci Format Paperback Year 1970 Pages 576 Publisher Dover Publications GE_Item_ID:7592648; About Us Grand Eagle Retail is the ideal place for all your shopping needs!
