Notably, some have read it as an allegory for isolation or solidarity, with a focus on life and death ultimately suggesting that humanitarian sympathies are, at their core, feelings of self-interest; and, additionally questioning how sensitivity to suffering could be detrimental. Sometimes described as one of Conrad's best early works after which many other major works immediately followed. Please send messages with any questions
