Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This seven-volume set belonged to my father-in-law. My husband recalled they were in his dad’s bookcase as early as 1955. They appear as though they have never been read. There are no high-lightings, underscores, or margin notations. In my opinion, from reading eBay’s descriptions, this set fails to meet the requirements of “like new” for the reasons I attempt to show in the photos and describe here. They really are in very good condition and have very little foxing. I have taken photos of the cover page in each volume. Then after that I display anything of note that I noticed, and will mention it here. If you notice what appears to be white paint on the front bottom corners any of the covers, it is paint. It shows on the corners of volumes one, two, three, and four. The explanation is that my husband and his sister painted the shelves on which these books were displayed sometime in the late 1950s. He was a pre-teen at the time. They were not very good painters. Enough said. The first six photos display the first six or seven volumes as a group, showing the condition of the covers, the spines, and the corners of the covers. There is very minimal wear on the tops of the spines. The corners of the covers show very marginal wear. I move from one volume to the next showing the cover page, and display or discuss anything that is significant with regard to that volume. If you zoom my photo 5 you can see the paint I mentioned above. There is also a white paint mark along the bottom edge of the back cover of volume 1, a small amount of white paint on the spine of volume one, and a tiny spot on the cover of volume 7. All of this can be seen in the photos. Volume One has the white paint discussed above, with a detail photo of the paint on the bottom edge of the back cover. The other volume in the detailed photo, volume 3, displays the paint on one of the corners as discussed above. Volume Two is used to show the foxing at the connection of the cover to the book itself. This foxing is, in my opinion, representative of the worst among the different volumes. Most have less foxing. Volume Three is in very good condition. The all have some amount of foxing in the fold where the covers join the books. Volume Four is in very good condition. I have added another photo of the foxing in the fold where the covers join the book. Volume Five has foxing on the photo page before the Title page, the Title page, the copyright page, and the first page of the table of contents. The foxing is contained on these pages; I could not find more. Volume Six is in very good condition. Volume Seven is a special case in that it is designed to be updated annually, from 1949 through 1963. The supplements for 1949 through 1954 are included. Coupons for 1955 through 1963 are also included. Given the limitations of showing all of this in 25 photos, I cannot add more photos of the foxing in each of the books, nor any of the interesting photos in the books. I have, however, shown what I believe is the worst of the foxing. Please look closely at the photos. Payment through eBay is required. I would be happy to combine items to reduce shipping costs BUT YOU MUST REQUEST THIS SERVICE BEFORE YOU PURCHASE.
