Description: The Life of George Washington by John Marshall (1804-1807) 1st Edition, Vols 1-5. Publication dates are as follows: Volume 1 (1804), Volume 2 (1804), Volume 3 (1804), Volume 4 (1805), Volume 5 (1807). Each volume has an owner plate on the inside cover (Stokes). Some light writing in pencil is also present prior to the Title Page of Volume 1 that might be able to be cleaned up completely (see image). It looks like someone had erased some pencil writing at the top of the Title page of Volume 1 as well (see image). No other known markings or writing in any volume. All volumes appear to be in original binding. There are a couple of slightly cracked hinges (see last image for one example), but there are no loose boards or pages, and for the most part the bindings don't feel loose at all (I didn't want to test them). There is sporadic foxing, and some tanning on all volumes. There is also a section of the pages near the beginning of Volumes 2-5 where there is an indentation on the pages (they aren't quite creased, but you can see this on the Title page images). Not sure what caused this, as the boards are all fine (no visible damage to the structure of the boards on any volume). No known damage to any pages of any volume (e.g. chips, tears, soiling). Page block is marbled on all volumes. Each book is 8.5x6x2 (hxwxd in inches, where depth is the thickness) Please don't hesitate to ask for additional photos of anything specific, as I'm happy to provide them.
