Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The story of the creation, training and exploits of the 10th Mountain Division during WWII, and its successes in the mountains of Italy during the Allied advances up the Italian peninsula. It took three years after the Division’s formation in 1941 for it to be used in combat, presumably because it was trained to fight in the snow at high altitudes, conditions that didn’t exist until the Allied armies were faced with the almost impregnable barrier of the German Gothic line in Italy in the winter of 1944-45. It’s successes in subduing the fortified peaks of the Gothic line had a major impact on the outcome of the Italian campaign, and pushed the Germans back north much faster than would otherwise have been the case. The Division fought its final campaign on the shores of Lake Garda in Italy in 1945, and was subsequently disbanded, only to be reconstituted for deployment during the Korean War, after which it was disbanded for a second time. It was reconstituted for a third and final time in 1985, and has served in the Gulf, Somalia, Bosnia and most recently in the mountains of Afghanistan during the campaign against the Taliban. A fascinating story, well worth a read. This 2003 Trade Paperback is in very good condition, with no internal markings and nominal cover wear.
